Short Cut

Shortcut is a permanent dynamic lighting artwork for Dover Yard Passageway that responds to the different speeds and densities of people in the alley.

Using evenly spaced recessed uplights in the paving and real-time thermal imaging, each light fitting increases in intensity as an individual passes by creating a wave of light washing across the walls of the passageway recalling pedestrians’ movements through the space.

Without pedestrian traffic the lights dim to a low-level brightness to save energy whilst also providing the required level of illumination.

The street lighting in the passageway was designed to work in coordination with the lighting of the artwork.

This project was designed, project managed and delivered whilst at Jason Bruges Studio.
